You may well have come across Australian-grown carob.
In the past couple of years, the two main growers of the shiny, fibrous pods have marketed carob powder, syrup and milk bars.
Located mostly in South Australia, the industry's still small, but it boasts an advanced processing plant to deal with the increasing carob tonnage.
CAROL SOLOMON: Our property is called Toxteth at Port Elliot. It is about 75km from Adelaide. It is down by the beach. We've got 4,500 carob trees growing here.
